Lowry
Park Tampa ZooLowry Park Tampa Zoo is located on
Sligh Ave. The zoo admission price covers entrance only. Usually a few
sections are under construction at any given time. Rides have a
separate charge. Any of the extras such as camel rides, feeding the
giraffes, and train rides are all extra. The charge for any of these
things is around $2 a person. When ever we have done any of the extras
we have always felt cheated. So we go strictly to look at the animals.
 The
staff is neither friendly nor helpful. All the places to eat at the zoo
are pretty much the same. Food is very basic and service is limited.
They always seem to be out of something. Beer is available in most of
the restaurants (you will need it after dealing with the incredibly
rude staff).
Most of the restaurants are cafeteria
style or counter
service. The pulled pork sandwich is pretty good but we don't go to the
zoo for the food.
In the Australia themed area there
is a few water geysers for the kids to play in. This area is mainly for
the under 5 crowd. There is also a shaded playground area for
kids 12 and under. The petting zoo is free and the kids really enjoy
it. The petting zoo has small goats and a llama which the kids can
brush at no additional charge. They have machines with feed for 50
cents. So the kids can feed them too.
 In
the Primate
area make sure you hang out by the small window to the left of the
orangutans exhibit. Sometimes these guys will come right up the glass.
For a minute you are not quite sure who is on display. The penguins are
also very friendly and eager to see what the visitors are up to.
The
admission is about $20 a person. The Lowry Park Tampa Zoo has 2 $5 days
throughout the year. Most of Tampa takes advantage of this offer. So be
warned it will be packed to capacity. The annual pass is a good deal. A
family of four can have a year at the zoo for $150 plus it entitles you
to discounts on food and in the gift shops (however gift shops are very
over priced and really don’t have anything but junk you will have to
throw away next week)
